Give Your Family These 5 Bonuses of Having a Virtual Career

I am so happy to be here sharing my story my VA Success Story and the 5 BONUSES I now enjoy having a virtual career. But before we proceed, let me share some facts about me!

I am a full-time mom to my 2-year old bubbly daughter and an amazing wife to my hubby. In my pre-kid life, I never imagined that someday I'd be a stay-at-home mom. But when I held my first baby, Erin, I had a complete change of heart. As soon as we locked eyes, all those careers, and financial worries faded. They didn't disappear, but they certainly became secondary.

As for my work background, I've been in the corporate world for 10 years, where I worked with multinational manufacturing companies, in the retail industry and BPO where I am holding supervisory positions.

Sir Jomar was first introduced to me by Bro Bo on one of his email newsletter on July 2009. I wasn't aware about the VA industry or virtual career then. Until August 2014, I've found out about virtual career when I met my mentor Jomar Hilario during the Ultimate Success Secrets: Marketing Mindset Webinar together with Jay McLean. Then, as I frequently attend Sir Jomar's webinar and learned more about virtual career, I said that, Yes! I want to give this a try. Personally, I found it perfectly suited my gifts, and my personal dreams. I want to succeed so my kids can live a happy, fulfilled life, which puts a whole new spin on the decisions I make in my business and why I do what I do.

A lot of what I do and the decisions I make are a result of thinking about the future of my children – not only what I can do now to give them the most opportunity down the road, but I try to imagine them as adults who are talking about their parents, and I want them to be proud of what we’ve done and the decisions we’ve made for the family. This thought guides me, and I know it’ll ultimately help me better serve my clients/ customers too.

So on October 2014, I purchased the VA202 downloadable. Yes, I was able to put up a blog but I didn't put up much effort to finish my VA assignments.

Then, March 2015 I signed up for the Date with Freedom live events which was held on May 29-30.

When I signed up for the Date with Freedom event, that I said to myself,

Gain expertise and wisdom from a mentor who will bring you towards your dream.

Sir Jomar has been very instrumental in reaching one of my dreams - this virtual career.

During the seminar cum summit, Bro Bo Sanchez was one of the guests who delivered a talk and he's words made a mark in my heart that, and he said,

The only pipeline to any kind of growth, abundance or success is humility.

Towards the end of the event, I prayed and committed to our Lord my journey towards freedom.

Where at this event, I gained new friends, grew my network and learned a lot from the experiences of others who have been ahead of me on this journey and enjoying a successful virtual career.

Then the last week of June last year, I resigned as an Operations Supervisor handling a team of CPAs. Come July, I started doing the assignments and signed up for Instant Virtual Skills (IVS) upgrade. I was able to finish 9 tutorials on October.

Actually, it was on my 7th tutorial when I begun setting up my online resume to all online job platforms I know of and started sending out emails to potential clients and getting invitations for interview.

On October 19, I finished reading Sir Jomar's virtual careers book and tried putting in action every techniques and strategy I learned from the book.

Then November 17, I landed my first online gig and then two weeks after with my 2nd client. From then on, I need to keep my skills sharp and keep learning and growing to be able to adapt to a competitive business climate.

Alright, so let's take a look at the 5 bonuses you can give to your family by having a virtual career:

1.  Launching an Online Business at Home

The idea of launching a home-based business never crossed my mind until I was introduced to the world of virtual career. Its biggest impact for my family is that I get to be with them 24/7 since managing my VA business is just a few steps away. It's true that having a home-based business is a more fruitful way to earn money. I can spend time with my daughter, help my husband in our finances and add to the family income too. Personally, it has been an incredible challenge to balance being a parent to my little one and being a parent to a business too, but despite these challenges I can definitely say that my family have made an extremely positive impact on launching my online business and who I am as a person.

It would have been very difficult for me to launch my VA business without the support of my husband from the very moment I decided to pursue my virtual career. When my husband and I were married, we became a team. When we had our daughter, we had to become a different kind of team, one that is not focused on us anymore, but our children. Having to launch an online business at home and raising a kid has taught us the importance of communication within our team as well as the idea of how important is it to do what we can to make the other person happy. So in my case, I’ve taken the same approach with my business. It's been 3 months now and having an effective system in place, I could spend more time with my family and I can work on my business and new projects while being with them.

If you're curious and willing to work hard, you can teach yourself what you need to develop your niche and get to the next level.

2.  Having the Best of Three Worlds

Yes, having a toddler, running an online business and being a housewife - It's really challenging juggling all these three on some days and I can definitely say that I love every minute of it! When my daughter was born, I asked myself, is it possible to work from home and have a career at the same time? If so, what kind of work can I do while at home?

Fast forward, now I run my own virtual professional services where I can work anywhere, not worrying about security of tenure and get to choose my own clients - the best of 3 worlds it is! And more importantly, having all these 3, I can be with my 2-year-old daughter. I get to be here to see all her "first" which is incredibly satisfying. I get to be her Mother-Teacher too. Now homeschooling my daughter is possible since I work from home. My husband now he has the peace of mind 'coz our daughter always have her mommy around. I can definitely say that I feel strong as an individual, which makes me a better mother and an even better role model to my 2-year-old daughter.

3.  Freedom, Choice and Flexibility

The primary reason that prompted me to take up the challenge of a virtual career and venture into a home-based business is the freedom, choice and flexibility it offers.

It is true that when you are an owner of a home-based business, you can spend more time with your family. Because we have no house helper, I do tasks when my daughter is asleep. I don't need to worry about missing important family occasions and gatherings because I can always make myself available. I can decide to go on family vacation without asking permission from an employer and in this case, my clients. Like this coming Thursday, my family and I will set off to Baguio and stay there for few days. So I just prepared my work in advance, trained a VA while I will be gone and informed my clients. After all, I am my own boss and this is my business.

Another perks is that I have a lot more leeway in my schedule when things go wrong. Like if ever a family member got sick, I didn't have to call off work and absent myself or find someone to watch and take care of them.

I can also run errands during nonpeak hours—hitting the grocery store, the bank and even going to the mall at 10AM versus the 6PM rush or scheduling doctor appointments. And I can schedule downtime/nap time, days off and vacation when it’s convenient for me.

Now I have more time to get actively involved in networking, attend meetups, conferences and other professional development activities. I enjoy the freedom of time and I'm able to focus on investing in the stock market, venture into affiliate marketing and others.

4.  Earning Dollars at Home

The idea of earning dollars at home excites us, right? Earning dollars (or any denomination is possible) at the comfort of your home! What we know is that we can earn foreign money abroad by being an OFWs. Fortunately for my family, having a virtual career the option of one of us leaving the family to work abroad and earn dollars have been eliminated. We value more our family bonding and togetherness. Now we enjoy it while having enough time and physical presence to nurture our family and being in the growing up years of our children. When I need to work from somewhere else, I can take my office with me.

So do you know how many percentage of the total work force in the Philippines are actually involved in the virtual business? Well, I don't have the exact statistics to base my assumption but I would say it's roughly about 10%. You might be wondering why only 10%? Out of the many college graduates each year... I think because since childhood we were conditioned that we need to be employed without even considering that we can actually have our own business. And thanks to the internet, this is more possible now. Once we discovered that there are other opportunities than being employed by having a virtual career. However, not everyone who ventures in this type of career became successful. Simply because they lack determination, they don't have actual goals and some didn't have the opportunity to find good mentors.

Because in the end,

Passion will give you the courage to be humble.

5.  Eliminate Daily Stress

Actually, there are a lot of sources of stress. Now that I have 2 full-time jobs - that of a mom and that of an entrepreneur. It can be difficult, stressful and, at times, completely chaotic. It is important that I pay attention to my physical and mental health and well-being. One way of eliminating stress which is also a great bonding for me and my daughter is we run and jog, we go to the playground, we play kick/catch/throw the ball, and sing and dance.

Outsourcing also eliminates stress & pagod in managing the house and running my business. I hire someone to do the general cleaning atleast twice a month to free up my time in more essential stuff so I can add more value to my business and more time for my family.

My husband and daughter are my great partners whom I get some help sa house. My husband has his share of household tasks and takes turn on taking care of our daughter when I needed a few hours to finish my work. In doing the laundry, my daughter helps me segregate white clothes from colored ones and putting it inside the washing machine.

It's music to my ears when I hear my daughter say with excitement, "Mommy! Look i did it!" knowing how she can wear her shoes on her own, pour water into her glass, or open the door for someone else. Every waking day that I get to see my husband and daughter, we cuddled together where I don't get to do these before because I need to leave the house to travel for work as early as 5:30AM and they're still asleep.

Less stress resulting to a more light and happy environment, this is what my husband have observed since I started working from home.

I find my home-based work environment significantly less stressful than any of the corporate jobs I’ve had in my life. I don’t have to worry about “big brother” watching over my shoulder. I am in complete control of my own income. No office politics. No commute and traffic. Weekends in my household are usually less chaotic because many of the usual weekend errands and tasks can be done during the week. I get to do what I love to do every single day.

Here's an advice I could give to those who are aspiring to have a virtual career

Never underestimate yourself or your capabilities, the only limitations, we have are those we place upon ourselves. There's this quote that says,

Never underestimate yourself or your capabilities, the only limitations, we have are those we place upon ourselves. There's this quote that says,

I have taken this to heart.

I have taken this to heart.

Whether your goals and aspirations for your Virtual Assistant Business are hoping you’ll be able to turn around a full time income while raising your kids at home, or you want to conquer the industry and make a name for yourself as a VA Thought Leader, you will face times when you are doubtful that it’s possible, or you wonder if you can, maybe your family won't be able to give their full support or people will say you’re crazy or your ideas won’t work or you’re a dreamer. When this happens just think of the Wright brothers, do you think everyone around them thought it was entirely possible to create a vehicle that was able to fly in the air carrying passengers? Absolutely not, but the most important takeaway from their story is that the only thing that mattered is that they believed it was possible...

It is possible to fly without motors, but not without knowledge and skill.
